Watch Killing Probe, Congress Urged


The Illinois General Assembly adopted a resolution asking Congress to monitor the investigation into the killing of Rev. Carl Schmitz, 70, a native of the Northwest Side who was killed April 7 in the Philippines, said James Morphew, legal counsel toIllinois House Speaker Michael Madigan. Father Schmitz, a Roman Catholic priest and member of the missionary Congregation of the Passion, which has U.S. headquarters in Chicago, had spent most of his adult life as a missionary in Asia, including the last 14 years on Mindanao.
